Is there a top speed for ebikes?

The maximum speed allowed by law for ebikes is 32 mph, which is an excellent speed for a bicycle without having to be regulated like a scooter or motorcycle which would require registration, licensing, insurance, etc.

How far can they go?

The size of the battery is a key factor, but it is also important to consider the total weight you are transporting, the inclination of the road and even the wind speed that can cause the length of the journey for each charge to vary, reaching from 50km to 200km, as long as you provide a powerful pedaling through your ride.

How much do ebikes weigh?

There is a huge variety of ebike models that have a weigh range from 45 pounds to 60 pounds. There are some exceptions for example on ebikes with fat tires or even the cargo ebikes.

How long does it take to charge an ebike battery?

It can take from 6 to 8 hours to fully charge from empty, depending on the battery.

Are there legal restrictions for ebikes in Canada?

As mentionetd above, there ate exceptions based on area but for the most part, ebikes in Canada are limited to a 500W output and cannot travel faster than 32km/h (20 mph) on motor power alone on level ground, each provincial state or territory has the authorization to inlcude their own laws and regulations. It is also important to know that in B.C. the minimum age allowed to ride an ebike is 16 years old.

Is it better a Class 1 or Class 2 ebike?

It depends on the experience you want to have while riding your ebike. A Class 1 ebike provides assitance only when you pedal, and stop assisting when you reach 32km/h- great for bike lanes, bike paths, roads or anywhere you’d take a traditional bike. A Class 2 ebike is equipped with a throttle which provides a boost without pedaling, and stops assiting at 32km/h.
